CGSU-UE Stands in Solidarity with Cayuga United-CWA
We, the graduate workers of Cornell Graduate Students United (UE Local 300), unequivocally support the nurses of Cayuga United-CWA in their fight to unionize and achieve safe working conditions and fair compensation for the essential services they provide to our community.
As neighbors of CMC and members of the Ithaca community, we rely on the healthcare services that the Cayuga United-CWA nurses provide. As unionized workers, we know the power of collective bargaining and have seen firsthand the changes in our working conditions when we won our first contract. The collective power of our unions is our only real chance to access workplace justice and life-changing benefits.
All workers have the right to dignity in their workplaces and a say in their working conditions. None of this is possible with the chronic understaffing that CMC nurses continue to face. Healthcare is life or death; our healthcare workers urgently need safe working conditions to provide these essential services.
We call on CMC management to follow NLRA and refrain from any tactics that would interfere with the unionization efforts of Cayuga United-CWA; and to meet the union at the table with good faith bargaining practices. CGSU-UE Local 300 stands in solidarity with Cayuga United-CWA.
In solidarity,
CGSU-UE Local 300 Executive Board
